Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
In a large bowl, cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Then mix in the vanilla extract.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
Fold in the chocolate chips or chunks.
Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto lined baking sheets, leaving space between each cookie.
Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Once cooled, decorate with sprinkles or colored sugar if desired.
