Decadent Butter Pecan Cake for Home Baking

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups pecans chopped and toasted
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Prepare your cake pans by greasing and flouring them.
  • In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Alternate adding the flour mixture and buttermilk into the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with the flour.
  • Fold in the toasted pecans and maple syrup until just combined.
  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Once baked, let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Once cool, frost with your choice of frosting, complementing the flavors of the cake.
