Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Prepare your cake pans by greasing and flouring them.
In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in the vanilla extract.
Alternate adding the flour mixture and buttermilk into the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with the flour.
Fold in the toasted pecans and maple syrup until just combined.
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Once baked, let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Once cool, frost with your choice of frosting, complementing the flavors of the cake.
