Method
- In a saucepan, bring water or milk to a boil.
- Add the rolled oats and salt, and reduce heat to a simmer.
- Cook the oats for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Stir in the brown sugar, butter, and vanilla extract.
- Mix in the butterscotch chips until they are partially melted.
- Serve warm, topping with chopped nuts if desired.
