Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2 cups water or milk
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butterscotch chips
  • Chopped nuts for topping optional

Method
 

  1. In a saucepan, bring water or milk to a boil.
  2. Add the rolled oats and salt, and reduce heat to a simmer.
  3. Cook the oats for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Stir in the brown sugar, butter, and vanilla extract.
  5. Mix in the butterscotch chips until they are partially melted.
  6. Serve warm, topping with chopped nuts if desired.
